ServicesVinyl Composition Tile
Vinyl Composition Tile in Deer Park
Vinyl composition tile, or VCT, is the hard-working floor you see in schools and stores, and it earns its keep in your home too. We install it in laundry rooms, garages, workshops and playrooms, with the same small crew handling your floor from the first measurement to the last coat of finish.

When VCT Is the Right Floor
VCT is made from vinyl resin, limestone filler and color pigment pressed into 12-inch tiles. It is dense, inexpensive and easy to patch, because a damaged tile can be heated, lifted and replaced without touching the rest of the room. It does need a few coats of floor finish to look its best and resist stains, which is the main difference from luxury vinyl tile.
We usually recommend it for rooms that take real abuse: a utility room with a washer that sometimes leaks, a garage converted to a gym, a hobby space where tools get dropped. If you want a softer, wood-look floor for a living area, our luxury vinyl plank or luxury vinyl tile pages are a better place to start, and we will tell you so on the phone.
Because we are a small team, the people who look at your slab are the people who lay your tile. Nothing gets lost in a handoff between an estimator and an installer you never met.
What Your VCT Installation Includes
- Moisture check on the slab
- Most homes around here sit on concrete slabs, and VCT adhesive fails when moisture keeps pushing up from below. We test before we glue anything down.
- Removing the old floor
- We take up carpet, sheet vinyl or newer tile and haul it away. If we find old 9-inch tiles or black adhesive that could contain asbestos, we stop and recommend testing before anyone disturbs it.
- Leveling and patching
- VCT is thin and shows every crack and ridge underneath. We grind high spots and skim low ones so the finished floor lies flat.
- Layout and pattern
- We snap lines from the center of the room so cut tiles at the walls are even. Checkerboards, borders and two-tone patterns are planned on paper with you first.
- Finish coats
- After the adhesive sets, we apply several coats of floor finish. That layer protects the tile and gives it the soft shine VCT is known for.
- Trim and cleanup
- We reinstall or replace baseboard and transitions at doorways, then sweep and clear out our materials.
Signs Your Room Could Use VCT
Carpet in a laundry room
Carpet near a washer holds water and smells. VCT shrugs off spills and wipes clean.
A bare garage slab
Dust, oil spots and cold concrete make a garage hard to use. VCT turns it into a usable workshop or gym floor.
Peeling sheet vinyl
When seams lift and edges curl, the backing has usually let go. Replacing it with tile means future damage stays limited to a single square.
A floor that has to survive kids or pets
Playrooms and dog rooms need something you can scrub hard. VCT handles toy bins, claws and muddy paws.
You want a retro look
A black-and-white checkerboard kitchen or a colorful diner-style room is classic VCT territory.
How a VCT Job Runs
- 1
A phone conversation
You tell us about the room and how you use it. We ask about what is on the floor now and roughly how big the space is.
- 2
Measuring and checking the slab
We come out, measure, test moisture and look for cracks or old flooring that needs care. You get a clear explanation of what we found and what it means for the job.
- 3
Prep day
We remove the old floor, level the slab and let any patch material cure. Small rooms often go straight into tile the same visit.
- 4
Laying the tile
Adhesive goes down, tiles are set along our layout lines and rolled so they bond fully. You can usually walk on it gently that evening.
- 5
Finish and walkthrough
We apply the finish coats, put the trim back and walk the floor with you. We also explain simple upkeep so the shine lasts.

What Moves the Price of VCT
The tile itself is one of the most affordable floors you can buy, so prep and labor make up much of the cost. We explain each part on the phone and again after we see the room, so you know where the money goes before work starts.
- Condition of the slab
- A smooth, dry slab keeps costs down. Cracks, old adhesive and moisture problems add prep time and materials.
- What we are removing
- Pulling up carpet is quick. Scraping glued-down sheet vinyl or ceramic tile takes longer, and suspected asbestos materials need testing first.
- Pattern and colors
- A single color in a straight layout is the simplest. Checkerboards, borders and inlays take more cutting and planning.
- Room shape and size
- Closets, cabinets and water heaters mean more cuts. A very small room still carries the same setup and prep steps.
VCT Questions We Hear Often
Something not covered here? (346) 639-4019
Is VCT the same as luxury vinyl tile?
No. VCT is a harder, thinner tile that needs floor finish on top. Luxury vinyl tile has a printed wear layer and looks more like stone or wood. Both are good floors, just for different rooms.
How much upkeep does VCT need?
Regular sweeping and damp mopping with a neutral cleaner covers most of it. In busy rooms, a fresh coat of finish every so often keeps the surface protected. We walk you through what your floor needs after installation.
Can you put VCT in a garage?
Yes, as long as the slab is sound and reasonably dry. We check moisture first, and if the slab is not suitable, we will tell you rather than install a floor that will lift.
My house has old tiles that might be asbestos. Can you still help?
We will not tear out suspected asbestos flooring. We will point it out and recommend having it tested. Once it is cleared or properly handled, we can install your new floor.
Do you stand behind the installation?
Every installation comes with a 1-year workmanship warranty. We are insured, and we have been in business 25+ years, so we expect to be around if you ever need us.
