Hardwood Flooring in Deer Park

Real wood floors last for decades when they go down over a dry, flat base. One small crew handles your hardwood job from the first measurement to the last piece of trim, so you see the same faces each day and get straight answers about which wood suits your rooms.

Real Wood, Put Down Right the First Time

Hardwood is a natural material, and it moves. It takes on moisture and swells in humid months, then gives it back and shrinks when the air conditioning runs hard. A good installation plans for that movement with the right product, the right expansion gaps and a subfloor that is dry and flat before anything goes down.

Most of the homes we work in around Deer Park sit on concrete slabs, which changes the choice. Engineered hardwood, with a real wood wear layer over a stable plywood core, is usually the better fit on slab, either glued down or floated. Solid hardwood works well over a wood subfloor and on upper floors. We walk you through both and tell you plainly which one we would put in our own house.

The people who measure your rooms are the people who install the floor. Nobody hands your job off halfway through, so the details you mention on the first visit are still in mind on install day.

What Your Hardwood Installation Includes

Moisture testing before we quote

We check the slab or wood subfloor with a moisture meter. If readings are high, we tell you before you buy flooring, not after it starts cupping.

Removal of the old floor

We pull up carpet, pad, tack strip, vinyl or old tile and haul it away. Glued-down materials take more time, and we say so up front.

Subfloor leveling and prep

Hardwood needs a flat base. We grind high spots, fill low ones and fasten loose subfloor panels so the finished floor does not flex or squeak.

Acclimation and layout

The wood sits in your home before install so it adjusts to your indoor air. We plan the board direction and starting line so rows run straight through doorways and hallways.

Trim, transitions and cleanup

We reinstall or replace baseboards and quarter round, fit transitions to tile or carpet, and leave the rooms swept and ready for furniture.

Signs It May Be Time for New Hardwood

  • Carpet that has worn out

Matted traffic paths, stains that keep coming back and allergy concerns are common reasons people move from carpet to wood.

  • Boards damaged by water

Hardwood that has cupped, buckled or turned black after a leak usually needs to come out. We find the edge of the damage and check the subfloor underneath.

  • Soft spots and loud squeaks

A floor that dips or pops underfoot often points to a loose or failing subfloor. Replacing the flooring is the time to fix it properly.

  • Gaps that never close

Some seasonal gapping is normal. Wide gaps that stay open year round can mean the floor was installed without proper acclimation or over too much moisture.

  • Dated flooring you are tired of

Sometimes nothing is broken. You just want warm, real wood in your living room, and that is a fine reason to call.

How a Hardwood Job Runs

  1. 1

    In-home measure and moisture check

We measure every room, test the subfloor and look at how the floor will meet stairs, tile and doorways. Bring your questions; we have been in business 25+ years and have heard most of them.

  2. 2

    Your quote, explained by phone

We go over the quote line by line so you know what covers material, removal, prep and trim. If prep work is likely, it is listed, not saved for later.

  3. 3

    Delivery and acclimation

The hardwood is delivered and left to adjust inside your home for the time the manufacturer calls for. We ask that your AC run at its normal setting during this stretch.

  4. 4

    Install days

The same crew arrives each morning, protects the areas we walk through and works room by room. Most average-size jobs take a few days, and we keep you posted on what is next.

  5. 5

    Final walkthrough

We walk the floor with you, check every transition and answer care questions, from felt pads under chair legs to keeping indoor humidity steady. If anything looks off, we fix it before we pack up.

What Shapes the Price of Hardwood

Hardwood pricing comes down to the wood you choose and the work it takes to get your rooms ready for it. We give you the full picture by phone after we have seen the space, so nothing on the final bill is a surprise.

Square footage and layout
Open rooms go quickly. Closets, angled walls, hallways and lots of doorways mean more cuts and more time.
Solid or engineered, and species
Oak, hickory and maple all price differently, and wider planks and thicker wear layers cost more. Engineered and solid differ too.
Subfloor condition
A flat, dry slab needs little work. Grinding, leveling compound or a moisture barrier adds to the job, and we flag it during the measure.
Removal of what is there now
Carpet comes up fast. Glued vinyl or tile set in mortar takes more labor and disposal.
Stairs and transitions
Treads, risers and nosings are priced separately. Our Stair Flooring page covers that work in more detail.

Hardwood Flooring Questions

Something not covered here? (346) 639-4019

Can you put hardwood on a concrete slab?

Yes, in most cases. We usually recommend engineered hardwood on slab, glued down or floated over a moisture barrier. We test the slab first, because moisture coming up through concrete is the most common reason wood floors fail.

Is engineered hardwood real wood?

It is. The top layer is real hardwood, bonded to a cross-layered core that holds its shape better through humidity swings. From standing height it looks the same as solid wood.

Do I have to move out during the install?

No. Most families stay home. We work room by room, and you will want to keep pets and kids out of the active area. Glue-down jobs have some odor, so open windows help.

Who moves the furniture?

Let us know on the first visit. We can move standard furniture; things like pianos, safes and loaded china cabinets are best handled before we arrive.

What happens if something goes wrong after the install?

Call us and the same crew comes back to look at it. Every installation carries our 1-year workmanship warranty on all installations, and we carry insurance while we work in your home. The flooring itself also has its own manufacturer warranty, which we go over at the walkthrough.

Is hardwood a good idea in a kitchen?

It can be, with care around the sink and dishwasher. If your kitchen sees a lot of water, we may suggest luxury vinyl plank or tile flooring there and hardwood in the living areas.
