Tile Flooring in Deer Park

Porcelain and ceramic tile for the rooms that see water, pets and heavy traffic. Our small crew preps the slab, sets the tile and grouts it, and the same faces show up every day until your new floor is finished and the trim is back on.

When tile is the right floor for your home

Tile handles water and wear better than almost any floor we install. Porcelain and ceramic don't swell when a dishwasher leaks or someone tracks in rain, and they stay cool underfoot through hot summers. That makes tile a natural fit for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms and entryways.

It is also the least forgiving floor to put down. Tile needs a flat, solid base, the right thinset and room to move. Most cracked tiles and loose grout we see come from shortcuts underneath, not from bad tile. Homes around Deer Park mostly sit on concrete slabs over clay soil that shifts between wet and dry seasons, so we plan for that movement from the start.

We're a small crew. The people who measure your rooms are the people who set the tile and sweep up at the end, so you never have to explain your layout to someone new.

What a tile installation from us includes

Removing the old floor

We pull up existing carpet, vinyl, laminate or tile, haul it away and scrape the slab clean. Breaking out old tile is loud and dusty, so we seal doorways and cover vents before we start.

Slab prep and leveling

We check flatness with a long straightedge, grind down high spots and fill low ones. Large-format tile especially needs a flat base, or the edges will sit uneven and catch your toes.

Crack isolation membrane

Where the slab has hairline cracks, we lay a membrane that lets the concrete move without breaking the tile above it.

Layout before anything is set

We dry-lay and snap lines so cuts land at walls and cabinets, not in the middle of the room, and the pattern looks straight from the doorway you walk through most.

Setting, grouting and sealing

Tile goes down in thinset with full coverage, perimeter gaps and movement joints. Then we grout, clean off the haze and seal the grout lines.

Trim and transitions

We add thresholds where tile meets carpet, wood or vinyl, and reset baseboards or add quarter round so every edge looks finished.

Signs your floor is ready for new tile

  • A crack running across several tiles

A line of cracked tiles usually follows a crack in the slab. Swapping a few pieces won't last; the floor needs a membrane underneath.

  • Hollow sound when you tap

Tiles that sound hollow have lost their bond to the slab. They tend to crack or pop loose next.

  • Grout that crumbles or stays dark

Missing grout lets water get under the tile. Grout that stays dark in a bathroom can mean moisture is sitting below the surface.

  • The wrong floor in a wet room

If carpet or laminate in your laundry room or bath swells, stains or smells after spills, tile is a better match for that space.

  • Tile you're simply tired of

Sometimes the old floor is sound and you just want a change. We'll tell you honestly whether it has to come out first.

How your tile job runs

  1. 1

    Start with a phone call

Tell us which rooms, what tile you're considering and what's on the floor now. We'll talk through options and set a time to come measure.

  2. 2

    Measure and line-item estimate

We measure each room, check the slab and note anything that affects the price, like dips or cracks. Your estimate lists each part of the job separately.

  3. 3

    Demo and prep

Removal, haul-off and slab prep come first. Leveler and membranes need time to cure, and we tell you up front how many days that adds.

  4. 4

    Setting and grout

The same crew sets the tile, then comes back to grout once the thinset has cured. We'll let you know when it's safe to walk on each room.

  5. 5

    Cleanup and walk-through

We clean up, put the trim back and walk the floor with you. Every installation carries our 1-year workmanship warranty, so if a tile we set comes loose, we come back and fix it.

What affects the cost of tile flooring

Tile pricing depends more on what's under the floor and the size of the tile than most people expect. We price the job after we've seen the room and the slab. If something changes once the old floor comes up, we show you before doing extra work.

Tile size and material
Porcelain is denser and slower to cut than ceramic. Large-format tile needs a flatter slab and careful handling, while small mosaics take longer to set.
What comes up first
Pulling carpet is quick. Breaking out old tile bonded to the slab takes far more labor and disposal.
Slab condition
Grinding, leveling and crack isolation membrane add materials and time. A flat, sound slab keeps this line small.
Pattern and room shape
Straight lay is the most efficient. Herringbone, diagonal layouts, kitchen islands and lots of doorways all mean more cuts and more waste.

Tile flooring questions

Should I pick porcelain or ceramic for my kitchen?

Both work. Porcelain absorbs less water and resists chips better, so it's our usual suggestion for kitchens and entries. Ceramic costs less and does well in lighter-use rooms like a guest bath. If you like the look of tile but want something warmer and softer underfoot, ask us about luxury vinyl tile too.

Can you lay new tile over my old tile?

Sometimes. If the old tile is fully bonded and flat, and the extra height still clears doors and appliances, it can work. Hollow spots or cracks mean it has to come out. We check before recommending either way.

Will my new tile crack when the slab moves?

Slabs in this area do shift with the soil, so we use crack isolation membrane over existing cracks and leave proper movement joints at walls and across large rooms. No one can stop a slab from moving, but these steps keep that movement from breaking the tile.

How long will my kitchen be out of use?

It depends on the size of the room and how much prep the slab needs. Removal and leveling take the most variable time. We give you a day-by-day plan before we start so you can work around it.

How long have you been setting tile, and who's working in my house?

We've been in business 25+ years, and we're insured for the work we do in your home. The same small crew handles your job from demo to final walk-through. All those years of slabs have taught us to look closely at what's underneath before a single tile goes down.
