Stair Flooring in Deer Park
We replace worn stair carpet, cover old treads and fit new risers and nosing so your staircase matches the floors around it. The same small crew measures every step, does the install and walks the finished stairs with you before we leave.

Stairs Take More Care Than Any Other Floor
A staircase is a run of short, separate floors, each with its own edges. No two steps are cut quite the same, the nosing takes the most wear in the house, and every tread has to feel solid underfoot. That is why stairs often get left behind when the rest of a floor is updated.
We treat each step as its own small job. We measure every tread and riser on its own, cut to fit, and fasten pieces so they stay quiet and firm. Because our crew is small, the person who measured your stairs is the one fitting them, so nothing gets lost between the visit and the install.
Most of our stair work ties into a bigger project, like hardwood flooring or luxury vinyl plank downstairs, but we also redo staircases on their own.
What Our Stair Work Covers
Removing the old covering
We pull up old carpet, pad, tack strip and staples, then clear the steps down to the structure. Leftover staples and glue are removed so new material sits flat.
New treads and risers
We install treads and risers in hardwood, luxury vinyl, laminate or carpet. Each piece is cut to its own step, since stairs are rarely perfectly square from top to bottom.
Nosing that matches your floor
The front edge of each step gets a matching stair nose so the color and profile line up with the floor on the landing and in the hall.
Firming up loose or squeaky steps
Before anything new goes down, we check each tread for movement and add fasteners or adhesive where it flexes. Covering a squeak only hides it for a while.
Landings and open-sided stairs
We handle landings, returns on open sides and the trim along the wall so the finished staircase looks complete, not patched.

Signs Your Stairs Are Ready for New Flooring
- Worn paths in the carpet
- Matted, flattened carpet in the center of each step and frayed edges at the nose are the first places stair carpet gives out.
- Carpet pulling loose at the nose
- When carpet lifts or slides at the front edge, it becomes a tripping risk. That usually means the tack strip or staples have let go.
- Squeaks and soft spots
- A tread that creaks or gives when you step on it often has a loose fastener underneath. We find and fix it during the job.
- Stairs that no longer match
- New floors downstairs can make an old staircase stand out. Matching treads and nosing ties the rooms back together.
- Pet hair and stains that won't lift
- Stair carpet traps more dirt than flat floors. Hard surfaces like vinyl or hardwood treads are much easier to keep clean.
How a Stair Job Runs
- 1
Talk it through by phone
You tell us about your staircase, the material you are leaning toward and what floors it needs to meet. We set a time to come look.
- 2
Measure every step
We measure each tread and riser one at a time and check step heights. Adding new material can change the height of the top or bottom step, so we plan for that before ordering.
- 3
Tear-out and prep
We protect nearby floors and walls, remove the old covering and secure any loose treads. Debris goes out with us.
- 4
Fit and fasten
Treads, risers and nosing are cut and installed step by step, usually working from the top down so you are never stepping on fresh work. How long it takes depends on the material and the number of steps, and we will give you a clear timeline before we start.
- 5
Walk it together
When we finish, we walk the stairs with you and check each step for movement or gaps. Our 1-year workmanship warranty covers the installation.
What Moves the Price of Stair Flooring
Stairs are priced by the step and by the details, not just square footage. A straight staircase with closed sides is the simplest; turns, landings and open edges add cutting and time. We go over each factor with you so the number makes sense before work starts.
- Number and shape of steps
- More steps means more pieces to cut and fit. Winders, pie-shaped steps and landings take extra time to measure and template.
- Material choice
- Carpet, laminate, luxury vinyl and solid hardwood treads each carry different material and labor costs. Hardwood treads often need more finishing work on site.
- What is underneath
- Some stairs have solid treads that can be covered directly. Others have particleboard or damaged steps that need repair or full cap treads first.
- Open sides and trim
- Open-sided stairs need finished returns on each tread, and skirt boards or trim may need adjusting or replacing.
Stair Flooring Questions
- Can you match my stairs to the floor I already have?
- Usually, yes. Most vinyl, laminate and hardwood lines offer matching stair nosing, and we can often source treads in the same color. If an exact match is not available, we will show you the closest options and suggest a complementary look.
- Do you have to remove my old treads?
- Not always. If the existing treads are solid and level, we can often install cap treads right over them. If they are damaged, uneven or made of thin particleboard, we will recommend replacing or reinforcing them first and explain why.
- Will I be able to use the stairs during the job?
- Mostly. We work from the top down and keep a safe path when we can, but there may be stretches where adhesive is setting and you will need to wait. We will tell you ahead of time so you can plan around it.
- Is vinyl or laminate slippery on stairs?
- It can be if the wrong product is used. We recommend textured surfaces and nosing with a grippy edge, and we will talk through options if you have kids, older family members or pets.
- How long have you been doing this kind of work?
- We have been in business 25+ years, and we are insured while we work in your home. On a staircase that means the crew you meet at the measuring visit is the same crew cutting and fastening every step. If you have questions partway through, you are asking the people who know your stairs.
